Pre-filters

Pre-filtration helps commercial water systems handle poor water quality with heavy particulate loads that move through supply lines before it can affect clarity, taste, or equipment behavior. By targeting sediment and other particulate at the earliest stage, these filters give downstream cartridges a longer lifespan and help facilities avoid recurring issues tied to rust flakes, sand grains, suspended organic matter, or clay particles. When placed ahead of carbon, scale-control, or fine-particulate units, pre-filtration can lessen the strain on those components and extend usable intervals between service events.

Controlling Sediment and Particulate Load

Sediment in the water supply may trigger clogging, abrasion, and inconsistent flow across ice machines, beverage dispensers, food equipment, and drinking water fixtures. A dedicated pre-filter captures coarse and mid-range particulate before it moves deeper into a system, intercepting the material most likely to settle inside valves, screens, and small internal channels. Removing rust, sand, and similar solids at this stage stabilizes water appearance and reduces off-notes often associated with suspended debris. For facilities with aging infrastructure or variable water sources, this first line of filtration reduces the burden on downstream filters, helping them last longer and perform more consistently.

Protecting Equipment and Downstream Cartridges

Pre-filtration reduces the workload placed on filters that focus on chlorine, taste and odor, scale, PFAS, or ultra-fine particulate. By minimizing sediment exposure, equipment such as pumps, ice-making components, and heat-exchange surfaces experience less wear and more predictable operation over time. High-capacity sediment filters help facilities manage up to tens of thousands of gallons depending on source water, so systems can function longer before filter replacement. This creates a more efficient path for both mechanical performance and subsequent filtration stages.
